* Current grades are available online through our new grading program.  Grades/attendance will be updated daily.

* Study guides are available for all the books we read in 11th grade. These guides are optional but highly suggested for those students who have difficulty with comprehension.  AP English students are instructed to find study guide materials on their own should they need them.

* I have offered to read student papers three days before a due date.

* I have posted commonly used SAT words, Latin and Greek root words, and prefixes on my web site under SAT Help for anyone who is interested.  While not part of the 11th grade curriculum, learning these words, root words, and prefixes will significantly improve SAT vocabulary scores.  In addition, I give 11th grade students the opportunity to answer at least one question from the SATs, both math and reading/vocab related, each class period in hopes that the exposure will help them with the actual test.  Throughout the year the students also complete SAT writing section responses to help them get a feel for what to expect on the test.  The writing section of the SATs is not part of the PSATs.

* You may view your child's writing portfolio at any time.  Please send me a quick email at kmeyers@dasd.org , and I'll send the portfolio home for you to look through.

* I do not require parent signatures on mid-marking or final marking period grades but will contact you by phone if your child is failing at mid-marking period.  Hard copies of mid-marks are not distributed because they are accessible on-line.  If you prefer a hard copy, please contact me.  I will contact you if your child fails any marking period.  I will also contact you if your child has done an outstanding job during any or all of the marking periods.

* Your child has the opportunity to meet with me and/or our theme reader for extra help.

* All handouts are available from the appropriate grade level tab on my web site.

* I have a strict policy regarding late assignments.  Please review the policy you and your child signed at the beginning of the year under your student's class period tab on my home page.

* Students receive a syllabus at the beginning of each marking period; however, this is only a guideline.  Up to date information/due dates, etc. is included on a calendar under your child's grade level tab on my home page.  I strongly suggest students constantly check the online calendar for current due dates.

You are welcome to email me at kmeyers@dasd.org regarding any additional questions or concerns you may have.  If you prefer, you may leave a message for me with Connie Shuttle, English Department Secretary, at 610.269.4400 x7564.

I look forward to a wonderful 2009-2010 school year!

Sincerely,

Kathryn Meyers
